Digital preservation

Digital preservation encompasses the set of activities responsible for ensuring the continued access to digital information.

Digital preservation is, therefore, the ability to ensure that digital information produced today remains accessible, and with sufficient authenticity attributes so that it can be consulted in the future, even when the technological platform used is different from the one that was originally used at the time of the creation of this information.

The Digital Preservation business unit is dedicated to the development of solutions that aim to safeguad digital information, as well as to the provision of serivces that minimise the risks of losing access to it at various levels.

Why us?

Since its inception, KEEP SOLUTIONS has played a pioneering role in building tools and scientific knowledge in the area of digital preservation. Its activity does not end with the sale of products and services, but is complemented by research, development and construction of a better understanding of the phenomena that threaten the longevity of digital information, as well as the creation of the most appropriate strategies to mitigate them.

Having actively participated in several international research projects in the area of digital preservation, our employees maintain a considerable scientific activity, participating in events in the area and publishing papers in scientific conferences, thus contributing significantly to the development and promotion of this area of knowledge.

RODA Enterprise

Repository for long-term preservation of digital information

RODA is a digital repository capable of incorporating, preserving and providing access to all kinds of digital material produced by large public or private organizations. Its features cover all the functional units of the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) reference model, allowing the incorporated information to remain authentic and accessible over time.

RODA allows information to be managed according to an approach based on risk analysis. The system permanently monitors the information it holds and alerts the responsible party to potencial risks that could jeopardise its longevity or hinder access.

Based on standards (OAIS, EAD, METS and PREMIS), this system is the ideal partner to create a certified repository according to the ISO 16363 standard (Audit and certification of trustworthy digital repositories).

Database Preservation Toolkit

Archive and preservation of relational databases

Information systems that support important business activities will be eventually decommissioned. However, information produced and/or managed by those system often continues to be relevant to the business or needs to be archived to comply with internal or legislative regulations.

KEEP SOLUTIONS provides tools capable of extracting information from relational databases with its respective conversion to standard platform-independent formats that ensure access to data dozens of years after a database has been decommissioned (SIARD v2). We also provide tools for navigation, searching and visualisation of archived data.

Consulting on the design of Digital Preservation Plans

A Digital Preservation Plan aims to define the set of actions and strategies that aim to safeguard digital information for periods exceeding 7 years.

This document, mandatory for public institutions that possess a document management policy, includes the diagnoses the organization’s information systems, installed information management practices, and defines what actions should be implemented to ensure the optimal requirements for information safeguarding.

ISO 16363 Consulting

Consulting for the certification of trustworthy digital repositories

Based on our experience and know-how in the field of digital preservation, we provide a set of consultancy services for the implementation of the ISO 16363 standard – Audit and Certification of Trustworthy Digital Repositories. Among these services are the assessment of compliance and maturity level of the repository, internal audits and counselling on the implementation of digital preservation services and solutions.

The implementation of the ISO 16363 standard enhances the confidence of all stakeholders (i.e., producers, consumers, system operators, administrators, etc.), as it determines if the repository meets the conditions to ensure that its mission can be carried out adequately.
